People have been arguing about the G-spot for over a thousand years. Even before the gynecologist Ernst Grafenberg ‘discovered’ it in 1944, the spot was known as a source of pleasure in tantric sex. It’s still hotly debated as to what and where the G-spot is, and even if it exists at all. Yet some women claim it’s a great way to achieve orgasm during sex, and the source of overwhelming pleasure. Whatever the findings of the latest report, it’s definitely an area worth exploring…

The science part describes the G-spot as an area of tissue inside the vagina, a couple of inches up and on the front wall. It’s been claimed that the G-spot is actually the root of the clitoris, which is larger than you might imagine - extending deep into the body for several inches. The G-spot is also the site of the Skene’s glands that surround the urethra and bladder.

So much for science. Now forget the diagrams - every woman is unique, and to find out whether the G-spot works for you, you’ll need to do a little research of your own. To explore your G-spot, start by feeling for it with a finger, pressing in and up like you’re making a beckoning gesture. The tissue here is usually slightly rougher than the rest of the smooth walls of the vagina - it feels something like the skin of a walnut. The ’spot’ grows as you become more aroused - from a little pea-sized area to something about the size of a quarter. Try out different strokes and pressures. If you feel suddenly like you need to pee, you’ve probably just hit your G-spot. It’s located next to the bladder, so this is completely natural.

Some women find the sensation uncomfortable, although this can depend on how aroused you are and at what point during your monthly cycle you’re at. If you keep trying though, you might be in for some lovely surprises. Certain sexual positions - like ‘doggy-style’ or standing with your partner behind you, can stimulate the G-spot and some women find this brings on orgasm. Most suggest that you need to press quite deep into the area to enjoy increased arousal.

The G-spot is also linked to female ejaculation, with around one in ten women ejaculating from a ‘G-gasm’. It’s been described as a different, ‘deeper’ orgasm than a purely clitoral experience. However, just as many women dislike the sensation of G-spot stimulation, and many can’t find any ’spot’ at all.
